We are aiming at WCAG 2.2 level AA. This page says what has actually been measured rather than what we would like to be true, and lists what is still missing.
What has been done and checked
- Every combination of text and background on the site has been measured for contrast. All of them meet or beat the 4.5 to 1 the standard asks for at normal text sizes.
- Every link and button is at least twenty-four pixels tall, which is what WCAG 2.2 requires of a target. Small type in the footer has a larger invisible hit area behind it.
- The whole site can be used from a keyboard, and the focus outline is visible on every control. A skip link is the first thing you reach.
- If your system asks for reduced motion, it is honoured: the film in the header is not even downloaded, the drawings stop moving, and every transition is cut to nothing.
- The site works with JavaScript turned off, including the signup form. Nothing is hidden behind a script.
- Every step of the activation film is written on screen, so the film can be followed with the sound off.
- Text can be enlarged to two hundred per cent without anything overlapping or scrolling sideways.
- An automated audit reports a perfect accessibility score on both pages, which we treat as a floor rather than a result.
What is missing
- The film's captions are burned into the picture rather than being a separate caption track, so they cannot be resized, restyled or read by a screen reader. A proper caption file is on the list.
- The film has no audio description.
- Everything is in English only.
- The site has been tested with keyboard and with automated tools, but not yet with a screen reader by someone who uses one daily. That is the test that matters most and we have not done it.
